I didn't opt in for the portable charger kit when getting my ZDX. Probably a mistake but I am debating between getting an OEM kit or a budget 16 amp cable on Amazon for the time being.

Plan was to keep it for topping off the car while it's in the garage on Level 1 but I am hoping it wont blow a socket or mess with the car. Anybody have any recommendations. There are a ton out there but not sure how many will last with daily charging.

Worst decision I ever made was taking the OEM portable kit at purchase. Wish I could give it back. I purchased another manufacturer's portable charger. Purchase yourself a kit from anyone, except OEM. You will be much happier.

I have the Acura portable Level 1/2 dumb charger and only used it for Level 1. There was no problem. I have the Emporia Level 2 hard wired charger on a 60 amp circuit providing 48 amps to the car, which matches the maximum the car can accept and provides about 30+miles range/hr charging. The charger was one of the less expensive ones and great reviews, including my electrician. He's had several Tesla charges immolate themselves. Check with your utility to see if off hour discounts are available. In suburban NYC it lowers me from 0.26/Kwh to 0.14/Kwh
Living with Level 1 charges about 3 miles range/hr. Be sure you can live with that.

I purchased a Lectron Level 2. It had great reviews and my local utility offered a $200 rebate on it. There is a list of Energy Star chargers that are pre-approved for the rebate. The Lectron was on it and was $250. I submitted the paperwork for the rebate and got a check within 6 weeks. $50 for a Level 2 (NEMA 14-50) charger  . So far works great.
